Have I seen you before?

There it was again.

Anu lifted the curtain. Stared at the bear for a moment.

She knew that she would call animal control. The phone was in her hand. She could do it.

But just like the last time, she didn't.

Memories stirred at the edge of her mind. A bonfire. Timber. And a bear. And a voice that seemed to whisper, "Hello, friend."

The bear seemed to stare back at her through the window, watching, unmoving.

Then it left her back yard, wandering away into the forest.

Anu let the curtain fall, and put her phone in her pocket.
