When the sun was an egg yolk

Too bright, too bright –
sink back into dark
dig into shadow
crawl along dampened wood
pull apart seek cracks bury into
basements attics sewers
waiting under ground until
light piercing like knives is gone

Sleep, sleep
wait
remembering
wind carrying a kite to the dome of blue sky
squinting at it against brightness
and stern voice saying
Don't Look At The Sun
You'll Go Blind

Light buzzes in the brain
or what's left of it
those words echo
repeat repeat repeat-ing
knowing words are truth
don't look at the sun
don't let it touch you
it'll burn more than your eyes.
