Summary: Sometimes, he dreams of losing him.
Other: This was supposed to be part of a larger work, but it ended up on the cutting room floor. Decided to turn it into a standalone drabble instead. :)
An ache that won't fade
Some of his worst dreams were of losing Hiraga.
A politely-worded, "I'm very sorry, Roberto, but I've asked to be re-assigned." Then he'd be gone; turning and disappearing before Roberto could even get a word out.
Those dreams would always end with him waking, staring up at the ceiling, breath coming quick and a sick feeling stirring in his stomach.
For more than a second, Roberto would believe that it was real, that it had happened.
Even if he knew it hadn't, couldn't have, the thought would still itch at the back of his mind until he saw Hiraga again.
