Past midnight
Night comes quickly up here.
Autumn's been slinking in for weeks, and darkness drops faster every day. They had all the lights on by the early evening, spilling gold out in the yard.
Now, it's deep into the night.
Denmark stands out in Norway's backyard and looks up at the sky, its dark coat jewelled with endless stars.
He breathes in that air, crisp and cool, taking it in deeply.
Denmark has been up for ages, feeling restless. Couldn't sleep a damn wink. Hours of staring at the ceiling bring him out here alone tonight.
As for Norway, oh, he's around. It isn't as if Denmark popped by at a time when the guy wasn't home, he wouldn't do something like that.
But last Denmark saw him, Norway was fast asleep, wrapped up in layers of blankets. He hadn't stirred when Denmark slipped out.
It feels – weird, in a way, to do this. To stand out here under his sky without him present. Too private, in a way, like he's somewhere close and personal. It's different in sunlight. Different with Norway beside him.
The cold air presses a kiss to his neck.
Denmark closes his eyes and drinks it in.
