As long as you like

Norway looked out the window and swore under his breath.

The kitchen was cold. He stood in his slippers and bathrobe and took in the sight that greeted him outside: winter darkness, and moonlight sparkling on snow.

The previous night's weather report hadn't said anything about snowfall. Well, it had predicted scattered flakes, true. But that was nothing compared to the mass of snow that had dumped on the earth during the night. Knee-high, by the look of it, and still coming down.

He cursed again, and this time got a sleepy reply for it.

"What's wrong?"

"Take a look." Norway glanced over to Sweden, then gestured to the kitchen window.

Sweden came over, coiling his arms around Norway's waist as he peered into the dark morning. He squinted outside for a moment, then grunted in acknowledgment and buried his face in Norway's hair.

"Gonna' take a while to dig your car out."

"Mmhm." Norway looked at the clock on the wall. The plan had been to drive Sweden to the train station so he could head back to his place. Their time together had been good, but much too short. Still, Sweden had things that needed tending to, and so did Norway. There was nothing to be done about the fact that he'd have to get back home eventually.

Norway leaned back against Sweden and considered this. "It'll be a while before the roads are clear," he said slowly. "Not that I want to drive in this, mind you. But you'll miss your train, I think."

"Oh?"

"Yes. And with the way it's coming down, I'm not sure things will be running on schedule, anyway."

"Hmm." A soft kiss against his hair. "No, guess not."

Did Sweden understand what he meant? Norway wondered. Well. It wouldn't hurt to be a bit clearer. His hands went to Sweden's, covering them gently. He gave them a squeeze. "Reckon you ought to stay here another day or two. Just until all this gets sorted out. You didn't have anything important that needed doing back home, did you?"

Another kiss, this time soft against his cheek. "Nothing that can't be rescheduled." Sweden's voice was low and warm. "Ya' don't mind?"

"Of course not." Norway closed his eyes and let himself lean into the closeness, losing himself in the warmth of Sweden's body. He wasn't about to complain about this; Sweden hadn't outstayed his welcome yet.

Maybe, under other circumstances, it would have been too long. But a day or two on top of a week was not too much to ask. They could let themselves have this. "Ought to go back to bed," Norway murmured, tilting his head a bit so Sweden could nose against his cheek. "Seeing as you're staying."

He got a soft sound of acknowledgment for that, and then Sweden drew away. In that moment, Norway wished he hadn't said anything – in only a second, he missed that warmth.

But, he reminded himself, he'd have it again soon.

He grasped Sweden's hand, and led him to the bedroom.

As long as he didn't let on just how much he hadn't wanted him to leave, Norway decided, it would be all right.

For now, Sweden could stay as long as he liked.
