In the dark
The storm is more wind than rain. It shrieks, rattles the house to its foundation.
Iceland shivers. Tries not to remember the old stories. Tries not to imagine a ghost sitting astride the roof, howling to draw him out. Ready to chase him until he drops dead.
Denmark is asleep down the hall. Iceland thinks about going to him.
He said that ghosts don't exist. That if they did Iceland's ghosts wouldn't come to Copenhagen. That Iceland is too old to be scared by things from the sagas.
Iceland pulls the blankets over his head, and stays where he is.
