Book under his arm, Gerry breathes and leaves and wills himself not to pick up the pace, even if his instincts tell him to get out of there as quickly as possible. Better not draw attention.
Out of the corner of his eye. Bright yellow. Scantly open. "Need a door?" The voice cheerful, friendly eyes peeking out behind a spill of gold hair.
Oh, I bet you'd love it if I said yes, Gerry thinks.
He almost says it. But what comes out of his mouth is "No!"
And that's when he runs.
Later that night, he dreams of corridors.
