Borrowing a door

Visiting a witch was easy. Sigil, knock, wait for them to open. Simple.

Visiting someone who wasn't a witch, on the other hand....

The first time Tzofiya had to explain to Jousia that actually, he wasn't the one she was here to see – well, that was awkward. His eyebrows rose as he realized what she meant.

But the second time, she didn't have to explain anything.

"Have fun," he said, stepping aside to let her through the door. He had that knowing look on his face again.

Tzofiya just grinned. "I will," she said, and headed down to Katariina's apartment.

Katariina was terrible at hiding how she felt.

"So," Tzofiya had said after one of many visits, when their feet brushed underneath the table in the tiny kitchen and Katariina blushed as if they'd done something indecent. "Do you want us to take this further? Start making a date of it?"

She took a sip while Katariina sputtered, and tried not to laugh at how cute she was when flustered.

"How did you know?" Katariina gestured, eyes wide. "Did you read my mind? Witch stuff and all that?"

"No," Tzofiya said, and then she did grin. "I just have eyes."

Going out together on a bright autumn day was an excellent idea, but...

"What should we do about that?" Katariina's eyes flicked up to Tzofiya's hair, waving wildly upright, as usual.

"Got it," Tzofiya said, slipping off the scarf from around her shoulders. "I'll tie it down; nobody will notice."

"Here, let me."

The sensation of Katariina's fingers against her hair made Tzofiya shiver. She waited until the scarf was tied in place, then she caught hold of her wrists, drawing her closer.

The surprised sound Katariina made as she kissed her was the cutest thing Tzofiya'd heard in ages.

The morning sky was black outside Katariina's window. Snowflakes caught the moonlight.

Tzofiya wasn't sure how long she had been awake.

Katariina stirred beside her, curling close, nose pressing to her neck.

"You getting up?" A sleepy murmur.

"Not yet." Tzofiya slipped her fingers through Katariina's hair, listening to her sigh.

She knew that they couldn't stay in bed all day. They both had things that they needed to do; the world wouldn't stop just because she'd stayed overnight.

Soon, she'd need to get up, say goodbye, and go back through Jousia's door.

But 'soon' wasn't 'now'. Soon could wait.
