The train was quiet. Outside, leafless trees and bare winter fields swept by.
It had been a long trip. Roberto could barely keep his eyes open.
Hiraga had dozed off, his head resting on Roberto's shoulder. It didn't look comfortable, but Roberto couldn't bring himself to disturb him.
He settled his hand atop Hiraga's. The gesture was intimate, too intimate for a public space, but the carriage was nearly empty.
Hiraga yawned, stirring. Curled closer, nestling more firmly against Roberto's side.
In over an hour they would reach their destination.
Roberto found himself wishing the trip would take even longer.
