Sugar and Cream
Tic tac tic tac--
Lazy summer day, passing by like nothing, the scent of fresh grass coming in through the open window soothing, the sound of the clock on the wall steady and lulling.
Norway stared out at the garden while Sweden fixed the coffee, listening as he shuffled about in the kitchen, padding footsteps, the clink of metal and glass. Sugar and cream, and no need to ask how many, as he knew by now how Norway took it.
The mug was set carefully on the table beside Norway. He took it, glancing up at his friend, the slightest smile, a thanking nod. Sweden returned it, then looked out to where Norway had been looking, the warm outside and the sun making its way across and down.
"T'day was nice," he said as he sank beside Norway, speaking of how they had spent it together, out in the sun and the air.
"Yes." Agreement.
Neither of them spoke again until his mug was drained to the dregs.
"I'll be staying th' night," Norway said. Not a question or a suggestion, simply a statement.
In response, Sweden smiled.
That was as good as 'yes'.
End.
