Welcome Home
Eduard stepped out of the car, slung his bag over his shoulder, and made his way up the walk toward the porch. In the warm late summer's day the main door had been opened, leaving the screen door to let in the breeze. From the inside came the music and the sound of a familiar voice accompanying it.
The sound made him feel at ease, the slight nervousness washing away. It seemed things would be exactly as they had before, then. Another year spent slogging through university; another year spent sharing an apartment with his friend.
He had been away for three months over the summer break. As he pushed his way through the door, he sighed. It was good to be back.
"Tino!" he called out as he slipped off his shoes in the foyer. "I'm back!"
There was a momentary pause, and Eduard braced himself for impact. It was not unwarranted, as a few seconds later he was nearly knocked over by Tino, who had run from the kitchen to latch onto him.
"I missed you!"
Same as always, then.
