Under your skin
It was not that Norway minded Denmark, not exactly. In some ways, he was quite a good friend indeed, and there were times when the company they shared together was pleasant.
It was the loudness that bothered him, coupled with the excessive cheerfulness. It was the close gestures in public, the expectation Norway would respond in kind, even though of course after all this time Denmark should have known better.
Denmark simply had a way of getting under Norway's skin.
It was, Norway thought at times, as if Denmark went out of his way to be as grating and obnoxious as possible. As if the entire thing was on purpose.
Somehow, he did not doubt it.
