Highway 63 [Original Poetry]
Title: Highway 63
Rating: E for Everyone
Length: 15 lines
Other: Wrote this in 2010, and promptly lost the draft - until now.
Highway 63
Some nights I dream of driving you down
That old road I remember
Turn south, point straight, go on
Trees all around, walling us in
Dark and close and thick
Until we pass by Marianna
Walls give way to charcoal
Split burnt spruce, skeletal sentinels
Standing bare around that smooth lake
But look now, look close, you'll see-
Fireweed and jack pine springing up
Through the blackened trunks.
