Four Seasons
I.
Early winter morning. Snow on the ground: fresh, clean, untouched, except for the footprints leading up to his house, footprints belonging to Joona, who stood outside his front door, waiting. Hannu lifted the curtain. Frowned. Let it fall.
He opened the door.
"Stop doing this," he said as Joona stepped in, knocking the snow off his shoes. "If you keep coming to see me before work, someone'll notice."
"So what?"
Hannu had an answer for that. He always did. But those hands cupped his cheeks before he could open his mouth. The kiss came before he could say a word.
II.
Spring never looked the way it did in photographs. It was just slush, and mud, and rain. Hannu sighed and zipped his coat up all the way.
Beside him, Joona lifted his eyes to the dark sky, the foreboding clouds.
"We should run for it."
Hannu cursed as a drop hit him square between the eyes.
"...Yeah."
They sprinted down the muddy streets, didn't stop until they reached Hannu's front step. Leaned against his door, watching as the sky opened up.
When the kiss came, it was only a quick, soft brush, stolen in the dark and cold and rain.
III.
Months of sunlight. Dazzlingly bright, even in the evening. Hannu pulled the blackout curtains shut. Keep out the sun. Keep out prying eyes.
Lips brushing against his temple. His jaw. His cheek. He turned and caught the next kiss that came, met Joona's mouth, sighed against him as he felt those arms slide around his waist.
He should have said: "It's too hot out for this." He should have complained. Normally, he would. Joona grinned against his mouth.
Sliding his hands up, Hannu sank them in that long hair, and decided to wipe that smile off his face another way.
IV.
Leaves crunching underfoot, scattered over the forest floor. Autumn was bright with all its colours. They walked: Joona on one side, Hannu on the other, Ville padding between them.
Ville found the berries. A few left, thin branches dipping under their weight. They picked them, cupped them in their hands, the juice staining their fingers and mouths.
They were alone. Even the dog wasn't paying attention.
Joona didn't taste like berries when Hannu kissed him. It was almost disappointing. But his mouth was stained enough that when he bit down, worrying his lips to redness, Hannu knew it wouldn't show.
