Kantele and Drum

I walk two worlds
waking and sleeping.
My mouth opens
speaking two tongues:
my father's, my mother's.
My hands know both
kantele and drum.

A runo passes my teeth
my fingers pluck strings.
I joik with the drum's strike
slip between layers,
step through worlds.
With wide eyes I see
present and future,
living and dead.

I walk two worlds
waking and sleeping.
I call the gods,
lead spirits to rest.
With kantele and drum
I peek through the layers
joiking the old world,
seeking the new.
