Rake and broom
Norway looked toward the farm. Stayed by the road. Didn't approach. Waited.
Listened.
The family that lived here was well-known to him. Lively, this lot. Prosperous. Welcoming. Hospitable.
Now, a stillness spread over their farm. Not a sound, nothing.
No calling of animals, no singing coming from the house, no crack of axe against wood, no shout of welcome as someone caught sight of him.
Nothing.
The emptiness crept up his spine like a spider. It was like the rest, then. All the farms he'd passed.
Pesta had been wandering his roads.
She'd taken her broom to this place, too.

Date: 2018-08-18 04:38 pm (UTC)Are you familiar with Theodor Kittelsen's work? His art of Pesta is what I always have at the back of my mind when I think of Norway + plague, haa. Like this one and this. Brrr!
(One of these days... I might write Norway encountering her face to face. :D )
