Take it easy

He woke to the warmth of sunlight on his eyelids. Someone had opened the curtains. It wasn't difficult to guess who.

For a long while, Sweden refused to do anything about it. He rolled over and pulled the blankets over his head and stayed that way. But eventually, it was impossible for him to deny it: he was awake, even if he didn't want to be.

Sweden kept his eyes shut tight as familiar hands drew the blankets off of his head. He sighed as he felt a soft kiss brush against his temple.

"If you keep at this, you'll stay in bed all day, I think," Norway murmured.

Sweden considered it. "Wouldn't mind that," he said.

"Ought not to sleep the day away."

"Wouldn't have to be sleepin'."

For a moment, Norway went silent. He seemed to be thinking it over.

The sound of Sweden's stomach growling broke the quiet.

Norway laughed. "Sounds like your gut has other ideas." He pressed another kiss to Sweden's cheek, while Sweden suppressed a groan. "Come on, then. I'll fix something up for us."

"Nnh..."

"I could bring it in here, if you like."

"...'Kay." Norway wasn't typically the kind to propose something so indulgent as breakfast in bed, but Sweden certainly wasn't going to dissuade him.

Norway dipped his head to give him another soft kiss, and this time, Sweden turned his head in time to catch it.

He watched as Norway threw on some clothes. His hair was slightly damp, and it was clear he'd been in the shower. No surprise, then, that he was to blame for the open curtains too. Norway had never been one to sleep in late, and he wasn't about to change his habits just because he had a guest.

"Got anything special you'd like?" Norway asked, glancing at Sweden over his shoulder. "If we're being lazy today, I might as well cook something."

It was a moment before Sweden could answer.

The sight of Norway standing there, washed in morning sunlight, made his breath catch. Norway always looked nice, as far as Sweden was concerned, but there were moments like this, when his expression was warm and relaxed, and the light caught his face just so, that made him look as spectacular as his landscape.

"...You all right?" Norway asked.

"Yeah." Sweden looked away, feeling a blush creep across his cheeks. For a quick second, he considered asking Norway to come back to bed. No, he decided. Better not. "Nothin' in mind, no. Surprise me?"

"Hmm." If Norway was going to ask why Sweden had paused, he gave no sign of it. "All right, then. I'll be back in a bit. Don't go anywhere."

Sweden closed his eyes and sank back into the mattress as he left.

In truth, Norway was to blame for the fact that he was so exhausted, though Sweden was sure that if he said this, Norway would say that Sweden had brought it all on himself.

They had, after all, gone to bed very early, and stayed up very late together. And why not? With nothing planned for the next day, and time set aside to be with each other for the whole week, they could spend that time however they liked.

Though, perhaps he'd overdone it a bit.

He was dozing when Norway returned with breakfast, but the scent of coffee and eggs was all it took to rouse him. When he sat up, he noticed that it was all set out neatly on the wooden serving tray he'd made Norway for Christmas the previous year. At the very least, it was nice to see that Norway was getting some use out of that.

"You're getting old, I think," Norway said as he handed it over.

"That so?"

"Yes." Norway clicked his tongue as he climbed into bed next to him. "Still sleeping so late in the day as all this. Never seen the like. Pass that coffee over here, thanks."

Sweden handed him the mug, shaking his head. "Ya' don't seem to mind..."

He got a raised eyebrow for that, which shouldn't have surprised him at all. "Oh?"

"Wouldn't've treated me if it bothered ya'."

Norway opened his mouth as if to give a sharp comment in return. But – just as Sweden expected – he didn't have a reply for that. It was, after all, the truth, and they both knew it. "Quit your fussin' and eat your breakfast, will you," Norway muttered before taking a long drink of coffee.

But by the way Norway's eyes crinkled at the corners, Sweden could tell he didn't mind at all – neither the fussing, nor the sleeping in, nor the getting old, if it came to that.

And that was more than all right, Sweden thought as he reached over to take Norway's hand.

They had all the time in the world.
