Hello!
It had been a strange day.
Nageki considered that for the first time in a very long time. Normally, his days passed in and out with barely any change to them, always staying the same. The only things that changed were the books in the library and the faces of the students who came in and didn't acknowledge his presence, sometimes going so far as to practically sit down on him without realizing he was there.
Today had been different, and he wasn't sure what to make of it.
He took up his book and went to the window to look out and watch as the students left the building, eager to get out at the end of the first day's classes. There was one who stood out from the rest, not due to plumage but due to, well, everything else. The fact that she was human ensured that she stuck out in a flock of birds.
She stood outside talking to a friend, someone he hadn't seen before. Then suddenly she froze, as if some instinct made her sense that someone was looking at her, and looked up.
Nageki gripped the windowsill and stared as she smiled and waved at him. He didn't wave back, or even so much as move, until she looked down again to reply to something her friend said. Ducking away from the window, he pushed himself out of her field of vision, edging into the centre of the room until he was absolutely sure that if she looked up again, she wouldn't see him.
Whether she would see him or not, that didn't matter. What mattered was that she had seen him, again, and acknowledged him just as easily as she had earlier that day when she'd walked through the library door.
It was strange.
He needed to think.
