I've been experimenting with compact formats a lot recently. I think I'll continue with that.
Still. Silent.
Talking, talking, words coming out of Emil’s mouth like always, talking too much.
There was something. A noise. Lalli stopped, listened, tried to listen, tried to strain his ears to catch it, but Emil kept talking. Talking. Words – too many. Noise.
Wall. Lalli shoved Emil against it without a thought, slapped a palm over his mouth to stop the words. Pressed him against the decaying wood and hissed at him to be quiet. Tried to get those wide surprised eyes to understand. Then he drew away enough to listen.
He heard it.
Emil heard it too.
It was close. Coming closer.
They waited.
Lalli felt it. Breathed in and almost tasted it, the scent sharper than the rot and the damp around them. Huge. Colossal. Too big.
They waited, unmoving, barely daring to breathe. Emil shut his eyes. Lalli held him.
Still.
Silent.
The giant passed them by without notice.
