Recursion
It was the last time.
No more nights spent together. No more staying up until who-knows-when, with their bodies pressed together, with sleep the last thing on their minds.
No more hands gripping wrists, hair, throats, shoulders.
"Are you okay?" Joona asked Hannu, glancing sideways at him. He was standing in front of the open kitchen window, mug of coffee in his hands, early-morning sunlight on his face, hair spilling down his back.
Hannu pulled his gaze away, and bent to pet Ville, who was snuffling at his feet under the table, and pretended that he hadn't been looking at him in the first place. "Mmhm. I'm fine." Are you? The question was on the tip of his tongue, but he didn't ask.
It didn't matter.
Hannu ran his tongue over his lower lip. It was weird that Joona lingered on him. The sharpness of his teeth on his lips. His long-fingered hands gripping and pulling his hair. Nails digging into the soft skin at his wrists.
He would have to hold on to this. Savour it as long as he could. They wouldn't do it again.
That's what you decided last time, Hannu reminded himself. That it would be the last time.
What they had wasn't working. They both knew it. But they hadn't been able to stay away from each other.
Joona's fingertips brushed along his shoulder. Grazed the back of his neck. Hannu closed his eyes and bit at his lip.
It wouldn't be the last time.
