So here you are
not beside me, but with
your gold head on my lap
a broad smile on your face.
Now, why did you
come breezing over here
interrupting my music?
(But of course
you well know –
protest
though I might
I don't truly mind.)
No words of importance
nothing demanding my time
or attention
except
your hair's soft coils
bright eyes laughing
and a smile that says
you know you've won.
Well, you're forgiven
so stay a while –
but wait a moment
don't say a word.
Let's enjoy this
can you hear it?
Listen –
the music
of birdsong and water
and the sound
of yellow hair slipping
through my fingers.
